Welcome to 2024

It's time for healthy skin and beauty maintenance.....

Let’s forget about all the unrealistic new year's resolutions, and just get down to some good old fashioned common sense attainable goals.

One thing we all know for sure is that not one of us already on this planet, is getting any younger! So let’s start by leaving all that pressure that we pile on ourselves everyday, at the exit door of 2023, and give ourselves a break. We seem to be living in a time when right has become wrong, good is now bad, black is white; so the next time you watch a TikTok or see an Instagram post promising you clear skin or rejuvenation over night, just remember, its more than likely absolute bullshit! Stop believing the hype. Social media is full of 'experts' - experts that are being paid to sell their products and just see the pound notes. Experts that have completed a half day online course and suddenly they have the knowledge to administer treatments to you, and ‘experts’ that are just scammers and liars. Do you know why they get away with it?, it's because, the public, don’t care. We have all become so lazy and when we see an advert, we want to believe it. We don’t bother to check out qualifications of the practitioner or the quality of their products, because the majority of us are decent human beings and we don’t believe that anyone offering a service wouldn’t be up to the job. We believe that our government wouldn’t allow any old Tom Dick or Harry to watch a YouTube video, where a so-called expert injects who knows what into a client and the next day the viewer becomes an expert. Sadly, and even more scary, is that this is exactly what is going on all over the country. There are no regulations in the beauty industry in the UK.

My advise is as always, check, check and check again. Check the qualifications and experience of the therapist. Check the course they've done and was it conducted by a reputable and relevant institution. Check the product/s they are using and were they obtained legally from a reputable company or pharmacy. And don’t just blame the therapists, there are plenty of Doctors out there making a lot of money selling products to anyone willing to pay. So, do your homework and stop looking at how many followers or likes someone has; these also are brought and paid for.

Winter Glow: Your Guide to Radiant Skin in Chilly Weather

Cold weather can be harsh on the skin, leading to issues such as dryness, flakiness, and sensitivity. To keep your skin healthy and hydrated during the cold weather, consider the following skincare tips:

  • Hydration is Key: Cold air tends to be dry and can sap moisture from your skin. Use a hydrating and nourishing moisturiser to keep your skin well-hydrated. Consider using a thicker, cream-based moisturiser during the colder months.

  • Gentle Cleansing: Opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Avoid hot water, as it can contribute to dryness. Lukewarm water is gentler on the skin.

  • Regular Exfoliation: Exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. However, choose a gentle exfoliator to avoid irritation, and don't overdo it—a maximum of once a week.

  • Humidify Indoor Spaces: Heating systems indoors can further contribute to dry air. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air in your living spaces, which can prevent your skin from drying out.

  • Sunscreen is Still Important: Even during cold weather, UV rays can damage your skin. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, especially on exposed areas like your face and hands.

  • Layer Your Skincare: Consider using multiple layers of skincare products, starting with lightweight serums and essences and finishing with a richer moisturiser. Layering helps seal in moisture and provides added protection.

  • Protective Clothing: Wear hats, scarves, and gloves to protect your skin from cold winds and low temperatures. This helps prevent windburn and retains moisture.

  • Lip Care: Lips can become dry and chapped during cold weather. Use a nourishing lip balm with ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil to keep your lips moisturised.

  • Avoid Harsh Ingredients: Products containing alcohol and harsh chemicals can exacerbate dryness. Choose skincare products with gentle, hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and ceramides.

  • Hydrating Masks: Treat your skin to hydrating masks once or twice a week. Look for masks with ingredients like aloe vera, honey, or hyaluronic acid to replenish moisture.

  • Warm Showers, Not Hot: Hot showers can strip your skin of natural oils. Opt for warm showers and limit the time spent in the shower to avoid excessive drying.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water is essential for overall skin health. Even though you might not feel as thirsty in cold weather, make a conscious effort to stay hydrated.

  • Switch to a Richer Night Cream: Consider using a richer, more emollient night cream during the colder months to provide extra hydration and repair your skin while you sleep.

  • Invest in Hand Cream: Hands are often exposed and prone to dryness. Keep a nourishing hand cream handy and apply it regularly, especially after washing your hands.

  • Come in for a skin consultation: If you're dealing with persistent dryness or skin issues, book in for a skin consultation with us. We can provide personalised recommendations based on your skin type and concern.

Remember, everyone's skin is different, so it may take some experimentation to find the routine that works best for you during colder weather. Listen to your skin's needs and make adjustments as necessary.
